3x+y=10
y=9

What is x?

Plug y=9 into the first equation to get:

3x+9=10

Subtract 9 from both sides and divide by 3:

x=1/3

Dojo, you need to install LaTeX on these servers

I'm sure you mean x=1/3.

Hmm...
You should make more questions here you dont just give the y variable.

Here's one:

John orders 15 books in total. Some are Math books and some are Fantasy books. Math books cost $30 dollars each and Fantasy books cost $12 each. The total price of the books is $306. How many Math books did he order?

Solving with systems of equations:

x+y=15
30x+12y=306

12x+12y=180
18x=126
x=7
